Going Green - 1. toe-up Socken/socks

Da ich ja über kurz oder lang ins Krankenhaus muss, habe ich mir ein Paar Krankenhaus-Socken gestrickt:

Ich liebe das Muster und die Farben! Grün/Türkis sind meine Lieblingsfarben und in allen möglichen Schattierungen enthalten. Ich habe anfangs eine normale Socke von oben nach unten mit normaler Ferse gestrickt. Die musste ich wieder aufribbeln, weil die Ferse - trotz richtiger Rechnung - viel zu schmal war. Das sah dann so aus:

I love the pattern as well as the colors! Green / turquoise are my favorite colors and show here in this yarn all their shades. I knitted a normal sock - top down - with a normal heel. I had to rib them as the heel turned out to be much too narrow - although I calculated everything in the correct way. This was how it looked:

Also habe ich das erste Mal toe-up gestrickt und sie passen wie angegossen! Ich hatte auch überhaupt keine Probleme mit den verkürzten Reihen. Das einzige Problem für mich war der Übergang von der Fersenwand: die 2. und 3. Nadel wurden ja nicht mit hoch gestrickt und als ich dann wieder über alle Runden stricken musste, hatte ich an den Seiten jeweils ein Loch. Gottseidank hat mich Vala im Forum auf Ravelry wieder einmal gerettet. Sie hat mir geraten, bei der letzten Abnahme je eine Masche der 2. und 3. Nadel auf die 1. und 4. Nadel zu nehmen und zusätzlich noch 2 Maschen aufzunehmen, die dann in der folgenden Reihe wieder zusammen gestrickt werden. Das klappt perfekt! Es hört sich vielleicht etwas verwirrend an. Wer Interesse hat, kann mich gerne anschreiben; ich versuche dann, es besser zu erklären. Da ich meine Socken ein paar Mal wieder aufribbeln musste, konnte ich diese Methode auch ausgiebig erproben und es hat immer gut geklappt. Ich denke, dass ich in Zukunft, soweit möglich, nur noch toe-up stricken werde. Das Muster musste ich ein wenig anpassen, aber ich finde, sie sehen wirklich gut aus. Ich bin jedenfalls sehr zufrieden und sie wandern direkt in meine Krankenhaustasche (von der ich hoffe, dass ich sie vielleicht doch nicht benutzen muss).

So I decided to knit the first time toe-up and they fit like a glove! I did not have any problems with the short rows. The only problem for me was the transition after the heel flap: as the 2nd and 3rd needle are not being knitted there was a hole when I had to knit over all 4 needles again after knitting the heel flap. But Vala in the Ravelry-forumsaved me - again. She advised me to move one stitch of the 2nd and 3rd needle to the 1st and 4th needle and to pick up additionally 2 stitches, which are being knitted together in the following round. That's just perfect! It may sound a bit confusing, hence whoever wants to get detailled info, can send me a comment. I will try to explain this step better. The several unravellings I had to do gave me plenty of opportunities to try this out and it worked each time. I think that I'll knit toe-up socks in future whenever possible. I had to adapt the pattern a bit but in my opinion they really look good. I am really satisfied and they directly go into my bag for the hospital (that one I hopefully won't have to use)

Strickbeutel / Project bag

Praktisch: wenn man häkelt, strickt und näht, kann man sich für das jeweils andere Hobby etwas häkeln, stricken oder nähen! Was ich unbedingt brauche, ist ein Beutel, in dem ich meine laufenden Strick-Sachen unterbringen kann. Mein erster Beutel sieht so aus:

Meine Abweichungen von der Anleitung: 1. am kurzen Henkel soll in der Mitte noch eine Falte von jeweils 3 cm zu jeder Seite abgesteppt werden. Das habe ich nicht gemacht - hauptsächlich, weil ich nicht richtig verstanden habe, was ich da machen soll. Aber ich finde, dass die Tasche auch so gut schließt - also lasse ich es so.

What I changed: 1. you were supposed to make a pleat of 3cm to each side at the short strap. I did not do that - mainly, because I didn't really understand what I had to do. But in my opinion, the bag closes very well without that pleat.

2. ich denke, ich habe die Innentasche in der Innentasche / im Futter zu weit oben angesetzt - obwohl ich ja meine, ich hätte die Maße eingehalten. Jetzt kann es aber sein, dass ich eventuell die Nahtzugabe nicht berücksichtigt habe - ok... ich mach ja noch ein paar!

Was ich wirklich lernen muss beim nähen ist, mich in Schnittmuster besser reinzudenken. Es fällt mir schwer, mir vorzustellen, wie ich was nähen muss, damit es nach dem Wenden so aussieht, wie ich es haben will. Mit dieser Anleitung von Coats hatte ich deshalb auch meine Probleme. Der Beutel besteht aus 2 Taschenteilen, den Henkeln und der Innentasche/ dem Futter. Soweit - so gut. Man näht quasi 2 Beutel: einen aus den beiden Außenstoffen und einen aus dem Futterstoff. Easy peasy - hab ich ja schon ein paar Mal gemacht in der letzten Zeit. Also los. Stoff ausgesucht (was bei mir gefühlte 10 Tage dauert!), Schere geholt, Stecknadeln gegrabscht und... stop! Ein Taschenteil ist breiter als das andere Taschenteil. Ähm ja... Laut Anleitung sollte man erst die beiden langen Seiten zusammen nähen. Das half mir eher gar nicht weiter. Ich habe dann zuerst die Innentasche genäht und auf Erleuchtung gewartet. Die kam aber erst, als ich die beiden Henkel an die Außenteile geheftet habe: aaaaah, die beiden Taschenteile sind gar nicht vorne und hinten! Man muss sie drehen - und dann kommt ne Tasche dabei raus. Ooooh! Hätte ich das vorher gewußt, hätte ich wahrscheinlich andere Stoffe ausgesucht. Jetzt sieht sie ein wenig gepuzzlet aus, finde ich. Aber ich stricke ja meist an mehrern Projekten gleichzeitig - kann also noch ein paar machen. Für Sockenstrickerei ist der Beutel perfekt: man lässt das Knäuel drin- dann kann er nicht immer weg kullern. Und wenn man weg will, legt man einfach den kurzen Henkel über den längeren. Der Beutel sieht ein wenig klein aus, aber mit 23,5 cm Läne ist er doch ganz schön groß: man kann ca. 5 Wollknäuel darin unterbringen. Für zukünftige Pullover oder Jackenprojekte werde ich mir aber noch einen größeren nähen. Falls irgendjemand Ideen für weitere Strickbeutel hat: immer her damit! Danke sagt Gabriele

What I really have to learn when sewing is to comprehend patterns better. It's difficult for me to imagine how something has to be sewn in order to look like I want it to after turning the right side out. This is why I had some problems with the Coat's pattern. The bag consists of 2 bag parts, the straps and the lining. So far - so good. You actually sew 2 bags: one from the 2 main fabrics and one from the lining. Easy peasy - done that several times before during the last weeks. Hence: go for it! Chose fabric (It feels like I need 10 days for that!), fetched scissors, grabbed some pins and... stop! One part is wider than the other one. Ahem yes... according to the pattern you have to sew the long sides first. Ok, that did not help at all. I decided to sew the lining first and waited for some enlightement. Which only came, when I pinned the straps to the oute parts of the bag: aaaaah, those 2 parts are not a front and a back side! You have to turn them a bit - and then you get a bag. Oooooh! If I had known that before, I probably had chosen other fabrics. Now it looks a bit puzzled - in my opinion. But as I knit on several projects at the same time, I'll need to make a few more. The bag is perfect for sock projects: leave the yarn inside - hence it can not flip around. And if you want to take it with you, you just fold the short strap over the long one. The bag looks a bit small, but with 23.5 cm length it is quite big: you can take aprox. 5 yarn balls in it. I will, however, make a bigger one, for sweater/ cardigan projects. If somebody has ideas for project bags - I'll love to hear about them! Thanks Gabriele

Socken für Weihnachten / Socks for Christmas

Für meine Tante habe ich lange nach einer passenden Anleitung für warme Socken gesucht und bin schließlich fündig geworden: ich habe mich für Brigid von Renee Leverington entschieden.

Das Foto ist leider nicht so gut geworden. Wie immer bin ich mit meinen Geschenken kurz vor knapp und musste in letzter Minute noch schnell ein Foto schießen. Darunter leidet die Qualität - habe ich gemerkt ;) Nächstes Jahr bin ich schneller...

Die Anleitung war sehr gut erklärt und mir gefällt das Muster sehr gut! In der Anleitung gab es einmal Verwirrung, als es um die Aufteilung der Nadeln für die Fersenwand ging. Ich denke, erfahrenere Strickerinnen werden damit keine Probleme haben. Als Anfänger sollte man an dieser Stelle aufpassen. Bis bald!

The pattern is written very well and I like the socks a lot! There was a misunderstanding in the pattern when organizing the needles for the heel flap, but experienced knitters won't face any problems in this. Beginners should take care when coming to this part of the socks. See you later!

Twin-Set: Polo-Shirt

Heute habe ich mein erstes Strickstück fertig bekommen, dass ich in Runden gestrickt habe. Ich stricke gerade 2 Sets für die Zwillinge, die aus Poloshirt und Hose bestehen. Hier ist das Poloshirt für den Jungen:

Ich finde den Rand am vorderen Halsausschnitt total süß. Dazu wird in der Hinreihe die äußere Masche nur abgehoben und dann in der Rückreihe re gestrickt. Das sieht dann so aus:

Baby-Strampler: 1. Hälfte / 1st part of twin rompers

Im August sollen die Zwillinge zur Welt kommen und inzwischen steht fest: es werden Junge und Mädchen. Ich freue mich riesig darüber, dass ich Strampler stricken darf. Eigentlich haben wir in der Verwandtschaft eine wirklich tolle Strickerin mit mega viel Erfahrung. Deshalb habe ich bis jetzt nicht so viel für unsere Enkeltochter gestrickt. Nun habe ich wieder angefangen. Und das ist dabei als 1. Baby-Projekt heraus gekommen:

Kleiner Post für kleine Häkelei / small post for small project

Mal kurz zwischendurch ein kleiner Post über eine kleine Häkelei: Für unsere Enkeltochter bin ich manchmal "Oma Ente". Der Grund liegt am See nebenan: wir sind fast jedes Mal dort, wenn sie hier ist und besuchen dann auch den kleinen Ententeich. Die Enten kennt sie, seitdem sie einige Monate alt ist und die Enten müssen immer sein, wenn sie hier ist. Nachdem ich meine Easter-Bunnies gehäkelt hatte, habe ich Geschmack an Amigurumi entwickelt. Falls ihr nicht wisst, was das ist, ist hier ein Wikipedia-Link. Diese kleinen Häkelprojekte sind so super süß und schnell aus Wollresten gemacht. Und was liegt näher, als eine Ente zu machen? Hier ist sie also: von Oma Ente an Marlen :)

A small post in between about a small crochet project. Our granddaughter sometimes calls me "Duck Granny". The reason for this can be found in the lake next door: nearly each time she is here, we visit the lake and the small duck pond. She knows the ducks since baby-age and this visit is obligatory whenever she comes to us. After crocheting the easter bunnies, I took a fancy to Amigurumi. Shouldn't you know them, here is the correspondent Wikipedia-Link. Those small crocheting projects are so super cute and made quickly from some wool's stash. So crocheting a duck suggests itself :) Here it is: from Duck Granny to Marlen :)

Ich liebe die Nordsee! Wenn ich mal in Rente gehe, möchte ich gerne nach Ostfriesland ziehen. Eine Ente passt zwar nicht zu 100% an die Nordsee, aber zum Hintergrund passt es doch ein wenig, oder? Naja, die Ente ist nicht mehr bei mir: erst hat meine bessere Hälfte sie für sich in Anspruch genommen. Das dauerte allerdings nur so lange, bis Marlen sie entdeckte. Sie passt nämlich perfekt in Lego-Bettchen. Also muss ich noch mehr Enten machen. Bei der nächsten versuche ich, eine Mütze dazu zu häkeln. Ok, hätte ich vielleicht nicht schreiben sollen, denn die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass ich das schaffe (ohne Anleitung) ist eher gering. Vorhin habe ich meine Bastelkiste mal wieder auf den Schreibtisch gehievt: irgendwie ist dieses Hobby viel zu kurz gekommen. Dabei habe ich so viele Projekte, die ich gerne machen würde. Das werde ich in jedem Fall an diesem Wochenende in Angriff nehmen. Ich wünsch Euch was!

I love the North Sea! As soon as I retire, I'd love to move to Ostfriesland (a region in Northern Germany, situated at the North Sea) A duck does not match to the Sea to 100%, but it prefectly fits to the background, doesn't it? Ok, the duck is no longer here with me: first hubby took it for himself; this did not last long: as soon as Marlen saw it, it was hers ;) Those ducks perfectly fit to Lego-beds. Hence, I have to crochet more of them. I'll try to make a fitting small cap next time. Ok, it would have been better not to write that, because it's not really likely to happen that I can do that without having a pattern. I've just hauled my crafting box up my desk: somehow my favourite hobby loses out in the last months. I will definitely re-start that over the weekend! Take care :)
